The years Okey Heath spent at Charleston Catholic High School were nothing but exceptional, right from first grade at Sacred Heart Grade School. The high level of academics and strong community present then flowed right into his high school years without disruption. Decades from his graduation in 1984, he still maintains many of those friendships to this day Throughout his career in Charleston Catholic athletics, the numerous awards and recognition that Okey received underlined not only his talent but also his determination. He was named Second Team Class A All-State in 1983 while also gaining First Team All-Southern AA Conference honors. His senior year, 1984, was an even stronger showing. Okey achieved: •First Team Class A All-State • First Team All-Southern AA Conference •First Team All-Kanawha County • First Team All-Academic Kanawha County • Merit Certificate for National Merit Scholarship He also set several school records at the time, including 600 points in one season, 50 points in one game, and 29 rebounds in one game, records which may or may not still stand today. Following his graduation from CCHS, Okey continued a highly successful athletic and academic career at West Virginia Tech, where the teams he was on won the WVIAC Tournament Championships in 1986 and 1988 and the WVIAC Regular Season Title in 1988. He completed his MBA from Virginia Tech. Okey started his professional career in public accounting as an auditor for one of the former Big Eight firms before taking a position in the petrochemical manufacturing business, for which he was responsible for accounting and IT. He is now living in Houston, Texas, where he is working in accounting and IT consulting, building off that great foundation that Charleston Catholic helped instill. From student athlete to accomplished professional, Okey Heath truly personifies the legacy that a Catholic education from Charleston can bring. Written by: Mateen Summers
